Meet our Interns...

We have been very lucky this semester to have 2 inters from the University of Texas...Ms. Luong and Ms. Zhang! We have really enjoyed learning lots of new things from them.
This week, Ms. Luong and Ms. Zhang did science with us. Ms. Luong helped us do an experiment on floating and sinking. We made predictions on which items would sink and which would float and then tested our predictions...

The next day, Ms. Zhang challenged us to see if we could make a piece of modeling clay float...
We tried a lot of things....
Nope...sank...
Try again...
Nope...sank again...
For the record...blowing air into the clay doesn't work...
We finally figured out how to flatten the clay out and curve up the sides so water can't get in (like a boat), and although we don't have any pictures, we really did get some to float! Really, we did!

A Peek at our Community Helpers Mural...

For those of you who haven't had a chance to see it in person...

After our community helpers unit, we brainstormed a list of important community places and helpers and made a giant mural to show what we learned.

Here are a few details...we included a hospital, vet, school, HEB, park, offices...

...restaurants, an animal shelter (we had just had a visit from the Williamson County Animal Shelter), a movie theater and doctor's office...
...a post office, school and police station...
...a fire station (and a burning building so the firefighters would have something to do!)

Reading Under the Stars

Here are a few pictures from the Literacy Night Camp Out on October 21st (Yes--the same day as our field trip!) Young and old gathered under the stars to listen to camp stories and eat smores...

Here's Mr. Pratz reading in front of his trailer...
And Ms. Spitzer in her tent...
And a few of our friends enjoying the fun...

Old Ms. Warner had a Farm...

And she is exhausted! But we all had a great time!

Enjoy!

Poem of the Week

Way up high in an apple tree,

I saw two eyes look at me.

I reached for an apple.

It started to squirm…

Oops!

I found a wiggly worm!

Let it Snow...Let it Snow...Let it Snow...

I don't know if you've heard or not...but it snowed today. We were right in the middle of math, and I heard a little voice say, "It's snowing!"--followed by a roar of screams! Needless to say, we did not finish math! We quickly bundled up and headed outside.

Although the pictures don't show it, it was coming down pretty good! It wasn't sticking to the ground--AT ALL--but that didn't stop them from making snow angels! Catching snowflakes on tongues was also a favorite activity! Unfortunately the snowmen and snowball fights of their dreams just didn't happen!

So here it is in pictures...Enjoy!
